Let's face it. Most of us here dislike beigemobiles such as the corolla, or the kia forte. These cars are more often than not bought by people who couldn't care less about driving, and just see a car as a convenient mode of transportation.
I believe that cars like these are some of the best cars on the road today, period. They do everything they should and more, without endangering the driver or the passengers of the vehicle. Before I start, let me say how I define a compact car. To me, it's every sedan, hatchback coupe and SUV that is smaller than the company's mid/fullsize offering, and costs between $16,000 and $22,000. I have specifically chosen this price range because it locks out the really cheap and underpowered superminis, and it stops before you get to the fast ones in the high end, like the Focus ST, or the Jetta GLI.
Ever since the 1970's you could go to your local dealer and choose between two types of cars. A cheaper, more efficient, less comfortable one, or a bigger, thirstier, more comfy one. In the past couple of years, that line has gotten a bit blurred. Don't get me wrong, a Volvo S60 is still a lot more comfortable than a Dodge dart that costs half as much, but the amount of comfort you get in modern day compacts is nothing to scoff at. A good example that I can give is sitting in the co-driver's seat of a 2012 Jetta for 5 hours. Yes, I would've been less fatigued in the previously mentioned Volvo, but having taken similar road trips in a 2006 Saturn ion, I can safely say the 2012 jetta felt like a Bentley in contrast to the Saturn.
The second factor that was historically a pitfall of compacts was their performance. Even today it's overshadowed by the possibilities of buying a used car with double the horsepower. A BMW 335i can be had for as little as $18,000. That's a 300hp. 150mph German saloon for the price of a decently equipped Hyundai elantra! But that car will go nowhere fast if something breaks. Being German, the cost to replace anything is at least a 3 digit bill. All the compact cars you can buy have really good warranties on them. Also most modern compacts are surprisingly sprightly. For just $18,500 VW will sell you a Turbocharged Jetta with 170 horsepower. Hyundai will sell you a 173 horsepower elantra! Kia will go as far as sell you a 201 horsepower forte Koup! Fiestas are available with the 1.6L Ecoboost in ST trim. All these cars perform as admirably as a V8 mustang did just 10 years ago! Not to mention that all the listed cars are new , have warranties, and cost less than a slightly used Impreza WRX.
Lastly, I want to discuss usability. The Original GTI is known as the car that killed the British sports cars. This is because it could get you to work and back safely, carry all your family or all your stuff quickly, and it could outpace your neighbors MGB on those tight, twisty back roads. Almost all modern compacts nowadays are a lot faster, a lot more comfortable, and a lot better in terms of handling. Some of these "Econo-Boxes" can be seriously tough rivals to shake in the twisties. Of course, a Camaro will walk off from an elantra without breaking a sweat, but he can't take his stuff or friends with him easily. Also, he'll cry at the pump as you coast by getting 36MPG's with the air con on, the radio at full blast, and your manumatic transmission holding the car at "max RPM" through the turns.
Hope you guys liked this little write up! Any tips for becoming a better writer would be appreciated!

Good write up!
I've come up with a new Toyota.
It's called the Toyota Culo.
Culo means Ass in Spanish, but it sounds like something Toyota would make

I do love me a good hatchback. My wife and I have are looking for somthing betwwen 17-21(MSRP) we're considering a Sonic as her next car(she likes a lot of the avalible colors, or an xB(most likely candidate), or a Fit, I'd even go for a Prius C. The new Corolla isn't new it's a face lifted 10 year old car., VW's are a bit out of the price range, and the Fiesta's back seat's are too useless, the focus is on the list too but she doesn't like the hatch and i don't like the sedan.

They look like a 2011 MG 6 - the Chinese are supposed to copy you, not the other way around.

But that day it works it’s still a thousand times better than a GTI!
